Spatial data has non-spatial information in it with usually stored in table form or in metadata. The table form attribute which consist of row and column like spreadsheet (Excel like table). Doing analysis to the table is easier in MS Excel rather than in GIS software itself. More widely-used spreadsheet software makes most people familiar with MS Excel. This tutorial tries to show how we can export out attribute information from our spatial data in MS Excel. The attribute table we are talking about is like the following image.

1. Open the DBF file
Most attribute data stored in DBF file. Shapefile, one of widely-used form from ESRI, has set of files as follow

pemukiman_rbi92.dbf file stored attribute information. The file can be directly opened by MS Excel. Here is a dialog example in MS Excel when opening the file. We need to change the file type into dBase Files or All Files.
