Download ASTER G-DEM via FTP
This is an alternative how to download ASTER GDEM via FTP. It is much faster and based on my experience, there is no error page like http://www.gdem.aster.ersdac.or.jp.
Here are the steps.
- Visit WIST Page (https://wist.echo.nasa.gov/~wist/api/imswelcome/)
- “ENTER WIST” or use this link https://wist.echo.nasa.gov/wist-bin/api/nph-ims.cgi?mode=MAINSRCH&JS=1
- Create Account (if you don’t have). Follow registration instruction completely.
- Login
- Search Aster GDEM data. The next steps are based on my preferences.
- Sort categories “By Discipline”
- Choose “ASTER” under “Land“
- Find “ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model v001″ Click on it .
- Click on “Choose dataset keywords”
- I did not change anything on “Choose a Data Search Type“
- “Choose Search Area” I tried “Type in Lat/Lon Point”. One point lat/lon will automatically select 4 x 4 degrees data matrix. You can try another selection method.
- I left other options untouched.
- Click on Start Search
- Choose/review selected data. Recognize data we need by viewing on their Data Granule ID
- Continue by pressing “Add Selections to Cart“
- Continue the order by clicking on “Go to Step 2“
- Personal data and billing address will be shown. Change the field data if you wish. Don’t worry about billing. It costs us $0 (zerro).
- Submit Order Now
- Wait in your email inbox. Some emails (probably two per order) will be delivered to your email. Wait to download until you have information about FTP connection.

The remote site section is greyed out so i cannot type in the remote server name. help plz
